Response to Gee's article

At first i think this article wast just some piece of garbage and confusing paper to ready. It was boring because I didn't really understand what this article was about. But after having a class discussion on what we have read. It turn out to be that the article was more interesting than I thought it was suppose to be. This article was mostly about all types of discourse such as primary discourse, secondary discourse , dominant discourse , and nondominat discourse.

The discourse that I see myself in are primary discourse and secondary discourse. I see myself in primary discourse because when i am at home i talk differently to my parents and family members. I talk to them in my native language and that is Hmong. I also see myself in secondary discourse because when i am out of the house, like at school, stores , friends house etc.... i talk with a more slang.

What dose Gee mean when he says " We must say or write the righting in the right way... the right social role... right values, beliefs, and attitudes? I think what Gee is trying to say is that you should know your right and wrong. I think who determine what is right are the people with power, money, and education.

  2. i talk differently to my parents too, i'm more calm and distant with my parents than my friends. this article was extremely confusing before we talked about it because i couldn't understand what the point of Discourse was, but now it seems kind of like a minipersonality
